Public Service

In fulfillment of its public service mission, the leadership of the Johnson Institute provided the following technical assistance services to organizations here and elsewhere:

  • An executive seminar on leadership and strategic management for newly appointed battalion chiefs of the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY),  a program operated through Columbia University to which Kearns has been invited to be a regular contributing faculty member
  • A seminar on leadership to the Commissioner of the FDNY and his top executive staff
  • Assistance with the Strategic Planning process for Winchester Thurston School
  • A workshop on governance for the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP)
  • A workshop on governance and strategy for the North Hills Community Outreach Board of Directors
  • A presentation for nonprofit executives on the topic of leadership and career development for the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Robert Morris University
  • Services on the Advisory Board for the 74% Project of the Bayer Center – raising awareness of pay equity issues in the nonprofit sector
  • Service on the Planning Committee for People’s Oakland Benefit Gala
